"How to Choose a Typeface" Reflection

I really enjoyed this article, as it gave attention to an overlooked aspect of design. I can relate to many of the mistakes mentioned in this article when it comes to choosing a font, as my younger self would often choose fonts that just looked pretty, even if it didn’t match the intention or the content it was paired with. I found it kind of surprising that this article recommended to stick with the popular, most-used fonts, because a lot of the time, design is about individuality and uniqueness, so replicating the type of other works seems a bit unexpected. I really like that this article gave visual examples of text and text pairing, so that I could build my knowledge on what types of fonts/styles go well together, and which ones do not. Not only did this article speak to the importance of font, but also the size, spacing, style, and color of text in design. I have had some experience with adjusting all these elements of type and have found that each one impacts the text significantly. I have seen many examples of text not using all these elements to its advantage, as some work has text that has too little spacing, or too little style variation, which can make it difficult to read or even just look at. From this article, I have learned that I may not want to focus my creativity on type as much as other elements of my designs, as sticking to the basics will be advantageous.
